Salt and the Paleo Diet

There are a lot of health claims in the world more than the permitted amount of sodium in the diet. Nowhere is this idea more widely discussed than in the Paleolithic diet. If you look through a wide range of paleo cookbook out there, you'll see what I mean. While some use of salt in almost any recipe, the other is strictly prohibited.

The problem with salt in Paleolithic diet that Paleolithic purists believe that the body is designed to digest only those things that are there for the duration of the oldest man, Paleolithic. Since salt was not introduced into the human diet long after that, they forbid it in their diets and encourage others to do the same.

However, some argue that just because you do not use does not mean it does not exist. It is available in the form of evaporated salt and salt deposits. Early man's only means lacking forethought or use it.

So, why all this stuff? Discussion sodium is not restricted to only those paleoites upset over it is an evolutionary origin or the time irrelevant. This is a debate that has sparked national discussion in recent years food.

Since the long-term effects of high sodium consumption are associated with such diseases such as stroke, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, edema and stomach cancer, many experts believe that stricter guidelines are needed for healthy eating.

FDA recommends that the average person consumed more than 2300mg of sodium per day (1500 mg for those over 51, African-Americans or people with hypertension, diabetes or chronic kidney disease), but research shows that the average American gains between 3400 and 4700mg a day, and that "an estimated 75 percent of the average consumer intake comes from packaged foods." (to)

For this reason, in 2010 New York City has launched a national salt reduction initiative, a campaign that has urged food producers to voluntarily reduce the sodium content of their proizvoda.Dugoročni goal is to see 25-percent reduction across the board by 2015th This campaign was met with a high amount of success, thanks in large part support the primacy of reason, first lady Michelle Obama.

For the untrained eye, it all seems like a great measure and reduce sodium consumption at the lowest possible level would only be icing on the cake of health. Unfortunately, this is a very wrong idea. Explain why we need to see exactly what sodium is not the biological level.

Sodium is a mineral and an essential one at that. It regulates blood volume and blood pressure, and our primary source of sodium is salt. For a minimal function, the body needs at least 500mg. A little sodium in the body can lead to muscle cramps, dizziness and neurological problems or even death. Increased water consumption with insufficient levels of sodium can cause a condition known as hyponatremia or water intoxication.

in the average diet, eliminating sodium is a wise decision, but the paleo diet, a large number of people who are athletes, elimination of sodium from the diet can be life threatening. When you sweat, you lose sodium deposits in your system, and when you rehydrate in sodium-deprived system, your risk of poisoning water going way up.

the best way to manage the sodium in your diet is just cut out the processed packaged foods. Stick to foods that are fresh and freshly prepared. Do not be afraid to salt the food during cooking or eating, but be wary of recipes that require huge amounts of it and eat salted or cured meats in moderate amounts. Drink lots of water, but not pretjerujte.Opće rule is one ounce of water per two pounds of body weight, a little more if you sweat a lot. If you have a high-salt a day, compensate by raising the intake of potassium, which can help counteract the negative effects of sodium.
